Summer Travelers Facing Delays and Cancellations at Newark Airport
Tralvers across the country and been facing problems at airports with canceled flights and delays.

Nearly 3000 flights had been canceled over the weekend with nearly 7000 delays.

Due to surging demand to travel many airports, Newark included, have been booking more flights than the airport has capacity for causing this dilemma to worsen. Newark airport air control is also short-staffed further compounding the problems.

“Well, what we really want at Newark Airport, in particular, is to enforce the rules that limit the number of flights to the number of operations that the airport can theoretically handle…But the other thing we need is to get the air traffic control towers back to full staffing, ” said Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines.

Steve Buttigieg, the US Transportation Secretary, met with airline CEOs last week to learn more about the reasons behind these issues and to discuss reliable and safe travel.

This comes as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg met with airline CEOs on Thursday to talk about reliable and safe travel for Americans.
